Financing Your MBA

How to apply for MBA Scholarships (Full-time MBA Program only):

The priority application deadline for MBA scholarships for the 2008-09 academic year is April 15, 2008. Applications submitted after this date will be considered for scholarships only if funds are still available.

As information for additional scholarships becomes available, this page will be updated to include links to the relevant information.

Step 1: Submit the FAFSA Form (see additional details below)

Step 2: Complete the on-line Scholarship Application Form

Step 3: Submit the following supplemental materials to the MBA Program Office

  • Prepare a one-page resume, which briefly summarizes your work experience, academic history, community activities, and honors.
  • Prepare a personal statement (no longer than one page) to discuss your academic background, community activities, career goals and examples of leadership and why you believe you should be selected as a scholarship recipient.
  • Prepare a paragraph briefly describing yourself (preferably written in the third person). This information will be given to the scholarship donor if you are the recipient of a scholarship.

To have priority consideration for a scholarship, materials should arrive or be postmarked no later than April 15, 2008. Until these materials are received, your application will not be considered for a scholarship.

Notification of scholarship awards:

The Graduate Scholarship Committee begins awarding scholarship funds as soon as possible. Generally, initial awards are made by early June and continue until the start of classes in the fall. You will be notified by email of your status in the scholarship application process.

Scholarship recipients are required to write a thank-you note to the scholarship sponsor before the money is awarded to your student account. In addition, recipients must be enrolled full-time (taking at least 10 credits/quarter) to continue to receive MBA scholarships.

FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)

For the majority of the scholarships awarded through this application, at least one of the criteria is that applicants demonstrate financial need. To be eligible for scholarships with financial need as a criterion, you must file a FAFSA form with the College Scholarship Service and request that the results be sent the UW Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA). The priority deadline is February 28, 2008 (additional details can be found on their website). Although you may apply after the priority deadline, the later the FAFSA is submitted, the less likely it will be that the information will arrive at the UW Financial Aid Office in time for you to be considered for a need-based scholarship.

  • The FAFSA is available online or in hard copy from the UW Office of Financial Aid (105 Schmitz Hall, 1410 NE Campus Parkway; Tel: 206-543-6101) or any financial aid office at your local community college or university.

  • International Students: Although you are not eligible for UW Financial Aid, if you have a Social Security Number, you can complete a FAFSA form so that you may be considered for need-based scholarships. (Please note: you will receive an error message, but the application will still be processed.) If you do not have a Social Security Number, you can still apply for a non-need based MBA scholarship.
